A Baby Story: Vanessa & Reyes

It seems like just yesterday that I was dreaming about my bestie and her new pregnancy journey (see blog post here). This summer flew by so quickly and I'm so happy to announce that baby Reyes has been welcomed to the world and is SO loved by his parents, family, and friends.

Shortly before he was born, we got together to take some proper maternity pictures. We explored a bunch of different locations and ended up with such a wide variety of images. So without further ado, I would like to re-introduce you to the lovely couple:

Me: How did you and Reyes meet?

Vanessa: We met freshman year in high school by mutual friends. Nothing special- we were both in relationships at the time, so we just became friends throughout high school. Senior year, we shared 3 classes together, which is how we became closer. We didn't start dating until about 6 months after we graduated from high school.

How excited were you guys when you found out you were pregnant?

I was excited, but I think more nervous and scared about becoming a parent. At first, I was full of a lot of different emotions at the time. Reyes was really excited; right away, he wanted to tell everyone, as soon as we found out, but I made him wait until we went to the doctor and after we made it through the first trimester, just to be safe.

What was the best part about being pregnant?

The best part about being pregnant was feeling the baby move around. I also liked having the excuse to eat often, because I had to- lol.

What was it like when you felt baby Reyes kick for the first time?

I laughed because it tickled; it felt really strange the first few weeks.

How could you tell that Reyes was going to be a great father?

I always knew he was going to be a great father. He is great with kids. The pregnancy reassured me- he was great and very attentive the whole time.

Was there a moment during the pregnancy where it all became real?

The first time we heard his heartbeat and saw the ultrasound, it became more real. Plus we found out I was about 3 weeks further than I thought, which made it a little more real. Physically, when I tried bending over and my big belly got in the way, it was a big reality check.

Drumroll Please!

Introducing the handsome Mr. Reyes!

What was it like when it was time to head to the hospital?

I was so scared when my water broke. It was 2:00am, 2 weeks before my due date and all I kept saying was, "We aren't ready! We have so much to do, this can't be happening right now!" When we were on our way, I started getting my contractions that started out only a minute and 30 seconds apart. I was in a lot of pain and couldn't believe it was happening.

What was it like to see and hold Baby Reyes for the first time?

Very emotional- we wanted to cry and smile at the same time. We couldn't believe we created such a perfect little guy; it was an exciting moment.

What has been the best part so far about being a mother?

Watching him get bigger every day and seeing the little changes as days go by. Knowing we made him together is the best feeling. There's a love between parents and children that you just can't explain and it's a great feeling.

What are your hopes for Baby Reyes?

We hope he grows to be strong, independent, responsible, respectful, and a successful young man. It is going to be an exciting journey and we are excited to watch him grow.
